2007 Mercury Milan Preview

when I saw the introduction of the Milan. Wow, what a car! If the American manufactureres can keep moving this direction there is hope! Decent mileage, sporty handling, the quiet noise dampening of a luxury model, ready to go "right out of the box!" Its a great value. Compare it to the Accord, Camry, or anything in the class. The Milan will stand shoulder to shoulder with each of them. When you look at the price, itll best them!

News

Milan is apparently being denied the hybrid-power option slated for sister Ford Fusion. Otherwise, this newcomer should see little change for the next couple of seasons.

2007 Mercury Milan: Highlights

Side airbags are standard instead of optional for 2007 on Mercurys midsize sedan. Milan shares its basic architecture with the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. It offers base and uplevel Premier models, both available with a 160-hp 4-cyl engine or a 221-hp V6. The 4-cyl comes with a 5-speed manual transmission or optional 5-speed automatic. V6 versions use a 6-speed automatic. As with the Fusion, Mercury says all-wheel drive will be available on Milan later in the model year. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard. Traction control is standard on V6 versions. Front side airbags and curtain side airbags are now standard. A sunroof is optional. Premiers come with leather upholstery, offer a choice of metal or wood interior trim at no extra cost, and are available with heated front seats. Milans performance and accommodations mirror those of similarly equipped Fusions.

Dimensions

The average midsize sedan is a little more ponderous than the Mercury Milan. The average midsize sedans tank is about the same size as the Mercury Milans, though the Mercury Milans is a little larger. The average midsize sedan and the Mercury Milan compete for the same parking spaces.

Comfort

While the front cabin in the typical midsize sedan offers a bit more head room than the Mercury Milan, there really isnt much of a difference. The Mercury Milan is not particularly roomier for your passengers than the typical midsize sedan.

Performance

With its tiny horsepower-to-weight ratio, the Mercury Milan will knock you back into your seat when you accelerate.

Utility

The average midsize sedan is likely a better choice than the Mercury Milan in terms of hauling capacity, especially if you frequently need to carry a lot of cargo or large dogs. Neither the Mercury Milan nor the average midsize sedan has a marked advantage with respect to seating capacity.

Cost

The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the average midsize sedan to the dealership as the Mercury Milan. The Mercury Milan wont tax your gasoline budget quite a bit more than the typical midsize sedan will. The Mercury Milan doesnt pale in comparison to the typical midsize sedan when it comes to gas mileage. In terms of MSRP, the average midsize sedan costs roughly as much as the Mercury Milan (though the Mercury Milan is somewhat cheaper).
